Kannavarai Tea Estate sits in the Nilgiris between 1,700 and 2,100 metres — three generations of the same family have been perfecting this blend since 1990. Every batch is personally tasted and approved by the managing partner before packing. Not a factory blend. A family's reputation in every kilogram.

The Kannavarai Estate Blend is specifically curated as a home blend — designed for the aroma and the unique Nilgiris flavour profile of the estate's specific microclimate, rather than the maximum-strength commercial grade. If you want to taste what Nilgiris terroir actually tastes like, this is the starting point.

🏔️ Single Estate — Kannavarai, Nilgiris — Grown at 1,700–2,100 metres. Every batch from the same estate, same altitude, same soil. No blending with other regions.
🍵 Estate Home Blend Character — Curated for aroma and Nilgiris flavour depth over maximum strength. The cup is bright, brisk, and distinctively aromatic.
🌿 Three Generations of Tea Expertise — Kannavarai has been producing since 1990 under the same family's direct oversight. The consistency is earned, not manufactured.
📦 Packed Fresh at Source — Sealed at the estate factory and dispatched within 48 hours of your order.
100% Nilgiris Origin — No blending with Assam or Dooars. Pure Blue Mountains terroir in every cup.

How to Brew

Add 1 teaspoon per cup to boiling water. Steep for 3–5 minutes. Add fresh Nilgiris milk and sugar to taste. For best results, let the tea stand for the full 5 minutes before adding milk — the full flavour compounds need time to develop.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Kannavarai Estate Blend and Kannavarai Gold Dust?
The Estate Blend is a home blend — curated for aroma and Nilgiris flavour. The Gold Dust is a commercial-grade CTC with higher strength and more cups per kilogram. For daily household chai with maximum flavour, choose Estate Blend. For high-volume brewing or stronger colour, choose Gold Dust.

Is Kannavarai tea organic?
Kannavarai Estate follows sustainable agricultural practices in the Nilgiris biosphere. Check the specific product label for current certification status.

How many cups per 250 grams?
Approximately 80–100 cups using 1 teaspoon per cup. Adjust to taste.

Does this work well with milk?
Yes — the Kannavarai estate blend is specifically designed to hold up to milk and sugar, producing a full amber liquor that stays bright when milk is added.

Why Nilgiris Tea is Different

The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.

At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.

What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.

All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.

Brewing Guide:

How to Brew the Perfect Cup

 FOR MILK CHAI
(Traditional Indian Method):

1. Add 200ml water to a saucepan
and bring to boil

2. Add 1 heaped teaspoon (3–4g)
of tea powder

3. Simmer for 2–3 minutes on
medium heat

4. Add 50–75ml full-fat milk

5. Simmer for 1 more minute

6. Add sugar to taste, strain,
and serve immediately

FOR BLACK TEA
(Plain, Without Milk):

1. Heat water to 90–95 degrees
Celsius (just below boiling)

2. Add 1 teaspoon tea powder per
200ml

3. Steep for 2–3 minutes maximum

4. Strain immediately into your
cup

5. Add lemon or honey if desired
— never milk with black tea

FOR ICED TEA:

1. Brew double-strength (2
teaspoons per 200ml)

2. Steep for 3 minutes

3. Strain directly over a glass
full of ice

4. Add lemon slices and honey

Nilgiris tea stays crystal clear when iced — no cloudiness.

Freshness and Storage

Freshness, Storage and Shelf
Life

 SHELF LIFE: 12–18 months from
packing date when stored correctly.

All tea is packed fresh at
source and vacuum-sealed or airtight-sealed before dispatch.

 STORAGE: Store in an airtight
container in a cool, dry place away from:

— Direct sunlight (degrades
chlorophyll and antioxidants)

— Moisture (causes mold and
off-flavors)

— Strong odours (tea absorbs
surrounding aromas rapidly)

— Heat above 30 degrees Celsius

BEST PRACTICE: Transfer to a
ceramic or glass airtight container on receipt.

A dedicated tea tin stored in a
kitchen cabinet is ideal.

SIGNS OF FRESHNESS: Fresh Nilgiris
tea has a bright, clean aroma on opening.

If the aroma has faded
significantly, the tea is past its prime — though still safe to consume.

DISPATCH: All OotyMade teas are dispatched within 48 hours of order
confirmation.
