Masala chai done properly: real spices — ginger, cardamom, clove, pepper, cinnamon — blended into Homewood Estate single-estate Nilgiris black tea at the source factory. Not a synthetic masala flavour blend. Not a generic commodity base with spice powder added. The real thing, from a real estate, at altitude.
The Homewood masala blend follows the Nilgiris tradition of spiced tea — where the mountain tea’s natural briskness works with the spice warmth rather than against it. The result is a chai with layers: the initial spice hit, the underlying brightness of Nilgiris altitude tea, the warmth that stays after the cup is done.
- 🌶️ Real Spice Blend — Not Synthetic Flavouring — Ginger, cardamom, clove, black pepper, and cinnamon ground and blended at the Nilgiris factory. Not masala flavour extract.
- 🏔️ Homewood Estate Black Tea Base — The altitude and microclimate of Homewood Estate produces a brisk, full-bodied base that carries spice blends with exceptional clarity.
- ☕ The Definitive Spiced Chai — Every cup delivers the layered warmth of masala chai made the right way: with real spices and real estate tea.
- 🌿 Nilgiris Factory Blending — Sourced, blended, and packed at the source in the Blue Mountains. Not assembled elsewhere.
- 🎁 Most Popular OotyMade Gift Tea — The masala chai variety consistently tops OotyMade’s gifting choices — familiar, distinctive, and better than what most people have tried before.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What spices are in the Homewood Masala blend?
The masala blend contains ginger, cardamom, clove, black pepper, and cinnamon — the traditional South Indian masala chai spice combination. The proportions are calibrated to complement the Homewood estate tea’s specific character.
How do I brew the perfect cup?
Add 1 teaspoon to 200ml of water. Bring to a simmer, add 50–75ml of fresh milk, simmer for 2 more minutes, strain, and serve. For a stronger masala character, use slightly more tea and simmer for a full 3 minutes after adding milk.
Is the Homewood Masala different from the generic Nilgiris Masala Tea?
Yes — different base tea (Homewood single estate vs. blended Nilgiris) and slightly different spice proportions calibrated to the specific character of the Homewood estate tea.
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.
At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.
What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.
All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.

All tea is packed fresh at

STORAGE: Store in an airtight
container in a cool, dry place away from:
— Direct sunlight (degrades
chlorophyll and antioxidants)
— Moisture (causes mold and
off-flavors)

surrounding aromas rapidly)
— Heat above 30 degrees Celsius
BEST PRACTICE: Transfer to a
ceramic or glass airtight container on receipt.
A dedicated tea tin stored in a
