The chai your grandmother made took 20 minutes. This one takes 3.
OotyMade Nilgiris Masala Tea captures the essential flavour architecture of traditional Indian masala chai — cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, all balanced against bold Nilgiris CTC black tea — in a single-scoop blend that brews a genuinely satisfying spiced chai without the effort of grinding individual spices.
No artificial flavours. No masala chai 'essence'. Just real spices, real tea, real result.
🫚 REAL WHOLE SPICES — not masala essence or spray-dried flavouring. Cardamom, dry ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper in their natural form, blended with Nilgiris CTC tea. The aroma on opening confirms this immediately
🍃 NILGIRIS CTC BASE — the bold, estate-sourced Nilgiris black tea provides the structural backbone against which the spices express themselves. Masala chai requires a strong base tea — our Nilgiris CTC delivers it
☕ TRADITIONALLY BALANCED SPICE BLEND — not cardamom-heavy like many commercial masala teas. Our blend uses the full traditional spice palette in proportions that mirror how masala chai has been made in South Indian homes for generations
🌿 NO ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS — the warmth and depth in every cup comes from actual spices, not from a flavouring agent. This distinction is immediately apparent in the cup — no flat, one-dimensional 'masala' note
🎁 MOST POPULAR OOTYMADE TEA GIFT — the immediately recognisable aroma makes this the tea people most often gift and most often reorder
Q1: What spices are in OotyMade Nilgiris Masala Tea?
Our masala blend contains: Nilgiris CTC black tea, cardamom (elaichi), dry ginger (sonth), cinnamon (dalchini), cloves (laung), and black pepper (kali mirch). All spices are real and natural — no artificial masala flavouring or essence.
Q2: How do I brew the perfect masala chai with this tea?
Add 1 heaped teaspoon to 150ml water. Bring to a gentle simmer for 2 minutes. Add 75ml full-fat milk. Simmer for 1 more minute. Strain. Add sugar to taste. The key is simmering (not boiling rapidly) — it draws out the spice oils slowly for a more complex, rounded flavour.
Q3: How is this different from regular tea with added spices?
The key difference is integration. When you add whole or ground spices to brewed tea, the spices and tea infuse separately. In OotyMade Nilgiris Masala Tea, the spices and tea are blended during processing — the essential oils from the spices partially infuse into the tea leaves themselves, creating a more unified, rounded masala flavour than separately added spices can achieve.
Q4: Is OotyMade Masala Tea caffeine-containing?
Yes. Masala tea contains Nilgiris CTC black tea as its base — approximately 50–80mg of caffeine per cup depending on brew strength. The spices (cardamom, ginger, cinnamon) contain no caffeine. For those managing caffeine intake, afternoon consumption of masala tea is generally fine; avoid within 3–4 hours of bedtime.
Q5: Is this good for digestion?
Many of the spices in traditional masala chai have documented digestive properties. Ginger (gingerols) reduces nausea and supports gastric motility. Cardamom (cineole) supports digestive comfort. Cinnamon (cinnamaldehyde) helps regulate blood sugar response. Black pepper (piperine) increases nutrient absorption. Together, a cup of masala chai after meals has a legitimate traditional and scientific basis for digestive support.
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.
At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.
What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.
All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.
