Q1: How do I make iced lime tea with this product?

Brew double-strength (2 teaspoons per 200ml) at 90°C for 3 minutes. Strain immediately over a glass filled with ice. The Nilgiris tea will stay perfectly clear — no cloudiness. Add honey to taste and a slice of fresh lime. Serve immediately. Arguably the best iced tea available from an Indian tea brand.

Q2: Is lime tea good for a sore throat?

The combination of black tea tannins (astringent), lime Vitamin C, and warmth makes this tea a pleasant, traditional home remedy for throat discomfort. Brew slightly stronger than usual, add honey, and drink warm.

Q3: Does the lime taste artificial?

No. OotyMade Nilgiris Lime Tea uses natural dried lime incorporated during blending. The lime note is present, recognisable, and genuinely citrus-forward — but rounded rather than sharp. If you are familiar with artificially flavoured fruit teas from mass-market brands, this will taste noticeably different — more integrated and less candy-like.

Q4: Can I add milk to lime tea?

We strongly advise against it. Milk curdles when combined with acidic ingredients like lime. Lime tea is best consumed plain (hot or iced) with honey as the only addition.

Q5: Is lime tea good for weight management?

Lime tea is a zero-calorie beverage (before adding sweetener) with antioxidant catechins and Vitamin C. Replacing high-calorie beverages with lime tea is a practical approach to reducing calorie intake without sacrificing the pleasure of a flavoured hot drink.

At this altitude, tea plants grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds — polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.

How to Prepare Tea

For Milk Chai (Traditional Indian Method)

Add 200ml water to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Add 1 heaped teaspoon (3–4g) of tea powder.
Simmer for 2–3 minutes on medium heat.
Add 50–75ml full-fat milk.
Simmer for 1 more minute.
Add sugar to taste, strain, and serve immediately.

For Black Tea (Plain, Without Milk)

Heat water to 90–95°C (just below boiling).
Add 1 teaspoon tea powder per 200ml.
Steep for 2–3 minutes maximum.
Strain immediately into your cup.
Add lemon or honey if desired — never milk with black tea.

For Iced Tea

Brew double-strength (2 teaspoons per 200ml).
Steep for 3 minutes.
Strain directly over a glass full of ice.
Add lemon slices and honey.

Best Paired With

Best plain or with honey. Never with milk. Exceptional as iced tea with fresh lime slices.

Storage

Shelf life: 12–18 months from packing date. Store in airtight container away from light and moisture.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight (degrades chlorophyll and antioxidants), moisture (causes mould and off-flavours), strong odours (tea absorbs surrounding aromas rapidly), and heat above 30°C.

Best practice

Transfer to a ceramic or glass airtight container on receipt — a dedicated tea tin stored in a kitchen cabinet is ideal.

Signs of freshness

Fresh Nilgiris tea has a bright, clean aroma on opening. If the aroma has faded significantly, the tea is past its prime — though still safe to consume.
