Q1: What is attar and how is it different from perfume?
Attar (or ittar) is a traditional alcohol-free concentrated perfume in which the aromatic essence is suspended in a base oil (traditionally sandalwood). Modern Western perfume uses ethanol as the carrier, which gives a bright initial burst but evaporates within hours. Attar oil-based formulation releases scent slowly from skin warmth — the smell evolves over hours rather than fading rapidly. Concentration is much higher than perfume, so a small amount is sufficient.
Q2: How do I apply attar correctly?
Roll one or two passes on pulse points — wrist, neck behind the ear, or inside of the elbow. The body warmth at these points slowly releases the scent throughout the day. Do not rub the wrists together; this crushes the top notes. Apply to clean skin, ideally after a shower. A little goes a long way.
