Only in Ooty could this combination exist naturally: the tea estates and the chocolate factories are neighbours at the same altitude, made from plants that grow in the same mountain air. Homewood Chocolate Tea is exactly what it sounds like — real cocoa blended with Homewood Estate single-estate Nilgiris black tea, where both ingredients come from the same mountain ecosystem.

The combination is not as unusual as it sounds at first. Ooty has been doing chocolate-flavoured tea since the mountain’s signature products — tea and chocolate — first crossed paths in the same kitchen. The result is a warm, slightly earthy, deeply comforting cup with the briskness of Nilgiris altitude tea and the rounded warmth of cocoa.

  • 🍫 Real Cocoa Blend — Ooty’s Two Signatures Together — Natural cocoa blended into single-estate Nilgiris black tea. Both products of the same mountain altitude. The combination is unique to Ooty.
  • 🏔️ Homewood Estate Black Tea Base — The altitude character of Homewood CTC holds the cocoa flavour without being overwhelmed — the tea’s natural briskness balances the cocoa’s earthiness.
  • A Unique Gift Tea — There is no chocolate tea like this outside the Nilgiris. It makes an exceptional and genuinely distinctive gift for tea lovers, chocolate lovers, or anyone who has visited Ooty.
  • 🌿 Natural Flavouring Only — No synthetic chocolate flavouring or artificial additives. Natural cocoa, blended at source.
  • 📦 Blended and Packed in the Nilgiris — Both tea and cocoa from the same mountain, mixed and sealed at the Nilgiris factory.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Does it taste more like tea or more like hot chocolate?
It tastes like tea — brisk, warm, and full-bodied Nilgiris chai — with a distinct cocoa undertone that rounds out the flavour. It is not hot chocolate. It is chai with cocoa depth. Most people who try it are surprised by how naturally the two flavours work together.

Is the chocolate flavour subtle or strong?
It is present and recognisable but not dominant — cocoa is the supporting character, Nilgiris tea is the lead. If you want a stronger cocoa note, brew a little stronger and reduce water by 10%.

Is this the same as the generic Nilgiris Chocolate Tea?
Different base. Homewood estate single-estate CTC vs. the generic Nilgiris blended base. The estate character gives the Homewood Chocolate Tea more complexity and briskness to complement the cocoa.

Why Nilgiris Tea is Different

The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.

At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.

What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.

All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.

Brewing Guide:

How to Brew the Perfect Cup

 FOR MILK CHAI
(Traditional Indian Method):

1. Add 200ml water to a saucepan
and bring to boil

2. Add 1 heaped teaspoon (3–4g)
of tea powder

3. Simmer for 2–3 minutes on
medium heat

4. Add 50–75ml full-fat milk

5. Simmer for 1 more minute

6. Add sugar to taste, strain,
and serve immediately

FOR BLACK TEA
(Plain, Without Milk):

1. Heat water to 90–95 degrees
Celsius (just below boiling)

2. Add 1 teaspoon tea powder per
200ml

3. Steep for 2–3 minutes maximum

4. Strain immediately into your
cup

5. Add lemon or honey if desired
— never milk with black tea

FOR ICED TEA:

1. Brew double-strength (2
teaspoons per 200ml)

2. Steep for 3 minutes

3. Strain directly over a glass
full of ice

4. Add lemon slices and honey

Nilgiris tea stays crystal clear when iced — no cloudiness.

Freshness and Storage

Freshness, Storage and Shelf
Life

 SHELF LIFE: 12–18 months from
packing date when stored correctly.

All tea is packed fresh at
source and vacuum-sealed or airtight-sealed before dispatch.

 STORAGE: Store in an airtight
container in a cool, dry place away from:

— Direct sunlight (degrades
chlorophyll and antioxidants)

— Moisture (causes mold and
off-flavors)

— Strong odours (tea absorbs
surrounding aromas rapidly)

— Heat above 30 degrees Celsius

BEST PRACTICE: Transfer to a
ceramic or glass airtight container on receipt.

A dedicated tea tin stored in a
kitchen cabinet is ideal.

SIGNS OF FRESHNESS: Fresh Nilgiris
tea has a bright, clean aroma on opening.

If the aroma has faded
significantly, the tea is past its prime — though still safe to consume.

DISPATCH: All OotyMade teas are dispatched within 48 hours of order
confirmation.
