Darmona’s Premium grade is the estate’s signature offering — a carefully selected CTC black tea from the multi-elevation Darmona gardens that delivers not just flavour and strength but a measurably high antioxidant profile. The theaflavins and polyphenols in Nilgiris altitude-grown black tea are more concentrated than lowland equivalents — the slower growth at altitude concentrates the compounds that make tea both taste better and do more for your health.
Four generations of the Gowder family, ISO 9001 certification, in-house laboratory testing. Every cup of Darmona Premium carries the weight of that heritage.
- 🔬 Antioxidant-Rich — High Polyphenol Profile — The altitude-grown Darmona leaf concentrates theaflavins and catechins beyond what lowland teas achieve. Your morning cup is doing more than you think.
- 🌿 Multi-Elevation Darmona Estate Gardens — Gardens at varying Nilgiris elevations contribute different character notes — the premium grade blends these estates for the optimal balance of strength, aroma, and body.
- 🏔️ Nilgiris Altitude Character — Bright, brisk, smooth-bodied. The characteristic quality season amber liquor with clean finish.
- 🏗️ ISO Certified, Lab-Tested Every Batch — Darmona’s quality management process means this is one of the most consistently reliable teas in the Nilgiris.
- 📦 Fresh Packed at Source — Sealed and dispatched within 48 hours.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How is Premium grade different from Darmona Dust?
Premium grade is a coarser, more balanced CTC grade — designed for flavour, body, and antioxidant character rather than maximum strength and colour. Dust is calibrated for maximum colour and cup yield. Premium is calibrated for the complete tea drinking experience.
What are the health benefits of the antioxidants in Darmona black tea?
The theaflavins and polyphenols in black tea have documented cardiovascular benefits, anti-inflammatory effects, and antioxidant activity. Nilgiris altitude-grown teas have higher polyphenol concentrations than lowland equivalents due to slower leaf growth concentrating these compounds.
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.
At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.
What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.
All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.

Freshness, Storage and Shelf
Life
SHELF LIFE: 12–18 months from
packing date when stored correctly.
All tea is packed fresh at
source and vacuum-sealed or airtight-sealed before dispatch.
STORAGE: Store in an airtight
container in a cool, dry place away from:
— Direct sunlight (degrades
chlorophyll and antioxidants)
— Moisture (causes mold and
off-flavors)
— Strong odours (tea absorbs
surrounding aromas rapidly)
— Heat above 30 degrees Celsius
BEST PRACTICE: Transfer to a
ceramic or glass airtight container on receipt.
A dedicated tea tin stored in a
kitchen cabinet is ideal.
SIGNS OF FRESHNESS: Fresh Nilgiris
tea has a bright, clean aroma on opening.
If the aroma has faded
significantly, the tea is past its prime — though still safe to consume.
