Nilgiris green tea is different from the green teas that dominate the Indian market — most of which are lowland-grown Chinese-style teas with minimal altitude advantage. Darmona Green Tea is grown at Nilgiris altitude on an ISO-certified, four-generation estate, where the slower growth concentrates EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) — the primary antioxidant compound that makes green tea therapeutically significant.
The result is a green tea that is genuinely more potent, more aromatic, and more complex than lowland alternatives — and brewed correctly, delivers a light, bright cup without the bitterness that cheaper green teas produce.
- 🌿 High-Altitude EGCG Concentration — Slower growth at Nilgiris altitude concentrates EGCG beyond what lowland green teas achieve. The health benefit is proportionally greater.
- 🏔️ Darmona Estate — ISO Certified — Four generations of Nilgiris tea expertise. Laboratory-tested quality control at every batch.
- 🍵 Light, Bright, Non-Bitter — Correctly processed Nilgiris green tea brews with natural sweetness and a clean finish — none of the harsh bitterness that poorly processed or low-quality green tea produces.
- ❤️ Metabolism, Heart, and Wellness — EGCG has documented effects on metabolism, cardiovascular health, blood sugar regulation, and cognitive function. Darmona’s altitude advantage maximises this compound.
- 📦 Organic, Fresh Packed at Source — No pesticides. Vacuum-sealed at the Nilgiris factory. Dispatched within 48 hours.
🍵 How to Brew
Use water at 80–85°C (not boiling — boiling water destroys EGCG and causes bitterness). Add 1 teaspoon per cup. Steep for maximum 2–3 minutes. Do not squeeze the brew — remove the tea cleanly. Enjoy plain or with a few drops of honey. Never add milk — it binds with the antioxidant compounds and reduces their bioavailability.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I not use boiling water for green tea?
Boiling water (100°C) destroys EGCG and other heat-sensitive antioxidants and causes the catechins to release harsh, bitter compounds. Water at 80–85°C extracts the beneficial compounds while keeping the cup light and non-bitter.
Is Darmona Green Tea better than Japanese or Chinese green teas?
Different, not necessarily better or worse. Japanese and Chinese green teas have different processing methods. Darmona is Indian Nilgiris style — rolled CTC green tea with a characteristic briskness. The altitude advantage is real and results in measurably higher EGCG concentration than lowland teas.
Can I drink green tea for weight loss?
EGCG has documented effects on fat oxidation and metabolism. Regular consumption of green tea as part of a balanced diet has clinical support for modest weight management benefits. However, green tea is not a standalone weight loss solution.
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.
At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.
What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.
All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.
