Most green tea in India is grown at low altitude in humid plains. It is functional. It is fine.

Nilgiris Green Tea is different.

Grown at 6,000 feet in the Blue Mountains where the cool, dry mountain air slows leaf growth dramatically — concentrating the catechins, EGCG, and chlorophyll that make green tea genuinely beneficial. The result is a lighter, fresher, more naturally sweet green tea with none of the grassy bitterness that low-quality green teas deliver.

🌿 HIGH-ALTITUDE CATECHIN CONCENTRATION — slow growth at 6,000 feet means more time for the leaf to develop EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) — the primary antioxidant in green tea. Higher altitude consistently produces higher catechin content

💚 NATURALLY SWEET — NO BITTERNESS — the cool Nilgiris climate reduces the astringent tannin development that makes low-quality green teas harsh and bitter. OotyMade Nilgiris Green Tea has a clean, slightly sweet, faintly grassy finish

🫖 BREWS CRYSTAL CLEAR — Nilgiris green tea brews to a beautiful pale gold-green liquor that stays clear when chilled — making it exceptional for both hot and iced green tea preparations

🌱 ORGANIC GROWING PRACTICES — the Nilgiris estates from which we source green tea use traditional, chemical-minimal cultivation practices that have sustained tea quality in these hills for over 150 years

TRACEABLE NILGIRIS ORIGIN — not a blended Indian green tea using generic lowland material. OotyMade sources Nilgiris green tea from specific estates in the Blue Mountains — real provenance, real character

Q1: What temperature should I use to brew Nilgiris green tea?

80–85°C — never boiling water. Boiling water destroys EGCG (the primary antioxidant) and releases excessive tannins that create bitterness. Allow freshly boiled water to cool for 3–5 minutes before pouring over your green tea. Steep for 2–3 minutes maximum. Do not squeeze or agitate the tea during steeping.

Q2: Can I add milk to green tea?

We recommend against it. Milk proteins (caseins) bind to catechins and reduce the bioavailability of green tea's antioxidants significantly. Green tea is best consumed plain or with a small amount of honey or lemon. Lemon juice (Vitamin C) actually increases catechin absorption.

Q3: What are the health benefits of Nilgiris green tea?

Green tea is one of the most researched beverages in nutritional science. Nilgiris green tea contains EGCG (antioxidant), L-theanine (promotes calm focus without sedation), caffeine (moderate energy), chlorophyll (cleansing), and polyphenols (cardiovascular support). At high altitude, catechin concentration is naturally higher than lowland green tea.

Q4: How is Nilgiris green tea different from Chinese or Japanese green tea?

Chinese and Japanese green teas are made from Camellia sinensis var. sinensis — a smaller-leafed plant. Indian Nilgiris green tea typically uses a hybrid with Assam-type leaves processed using oxidation-halt techniques similar to Chinese green tea. The character is different — less vegetal than Japanese matcha or sencha, brighter and more floral than most Chinese green teas. A distinctly Indian green tea experience.

Q5: How much green tea should I drink per day?

Research generally supports 2–4 cups (400–800ml) of green tea daily for health benefits. Each cup of OotyMade Nilgiris Green Tea contains approximately 30–50mg of caffeine — moderate and well below levels associated with adverse effects. People sensitive to caffeine should avoid drinking green tea after 4 PM.

Why Nilgiris Tea is Different

The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.

At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.

What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.

All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.

Brewing Guide:

How to Brew the Perfect Cup

 FOR MILK CHAI
(Traditional Indian Method):

1. Add 200ml water to a saucepan
and bring to boil

2. Add 1 heaped teaspoon (3–4g)
of tea powder

3. Simmer for 2–3 minutes on
medium heat

4. Add 50–75ml full-fat milk

5. Simmer for 1 more minute

6. Add sugar to taste, strain,
and serve immediately

FOR BLACK TEA
(Plain, Without Milk):

1. Heat water to 90–95 degrees
Celsius (just below boiling)

2. Add 1 teaspoon tea powder per
200ml

3. Steep for 2–3 minutes maximum

4. Strain immediately into your
cup

5. Add lemon or honey if desired
— never milk with black tea

FOR ICED TEA:

1. Brew double-strength (2
teaspoons per 200ml)

2. Steep for 3 minutes

3. Strain directly over a glass
full of ice

4. Add lemon slices and honey

Nilgiris tea stays crystal clear when iced — no cloudiness.

Freshness and Storage

Freshness, Storage and Shelf
Life

 SHELF LIFE: 12–18 months from
packing date when stored correctly.

All tea is packed fresh at
source and vacuum-sealed or airtight-sealed before dispatch.

 STORAGE: Store in an airtight
container in a cool, dry place away from:

— Direct sunlight (degrades
chlorophyll and antioxidants)

— Moisture (causes mold and
off-flavors)

— Strong odours (tea absorbs
surrounding aromas rapidly)

— Heat above 30 degrees Celsius

BEST PRACTICE: Transfer to a
ceramic or glass airtight container on receipt.

A dedicated tea tin stored in a
kitchen cabinet is ideal.

SIGNS OF FRESHNESS: Fresh Nilgiris
tea has a bright, clean aroma on opening.

If the aroma has faded
significantly, the tea is past its prime — though still safe to consume.

DISPATCH: All OotyMade teas are dispatched within 48 hours of order
confirmation.
