Two of Ooty's most beloved things. In one cup.
Nilgiris Chocolate Tea is exactly what it sounds like — and better than you imagine. Nilgiris black tea blended with natural cocoa creates a warm, smooth beverage that has the brightness and depth of a quality black tea and the rich, comforting warmth of chocolate.
Ooty is India's chocolate capital and India's tea capital in a single mountain. This tea is the proof.
🍫 NATURAL COCOA IN NILGIRIS TEA — not chocolate flavouring, not cocoa essence. Real cocoa powder blended with Nilgiris black tea. The chocolate note is warm, genuine, and immediately recognisable
🍃 NILGIRIS BLACK TEA BASE — the same estate-sourced Nilgiris CTC that underpins all our blends. The tea's natural brightness provides the perfect contrast to the cocoa's richness
🌿 ZERO ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS — this is entirely different from artificially flavoured 'chocolate teas' sold by most brands. The cocoa is a real ingredient in the blend, not a spray-applied flavouring
☕ THE PERFECT ALTERNATIVE TO HOT CHOCOLATE — less sweet, less heavy, antioxidant-rich from both tea and cocoa. A warm, satisfying beverage that adults who want the chocolate experience without the sugar load will genuinely love
🎁 THE MOST SURPRISING GIFT TEA — recipients who have not encountered chocolate tea before are consistently delighted and curious. Perfect for tea lovers who also love OotyMade chocolates — Ooty in both its most famous forms, in one gift
Q1: What does Nilgiris Chocolate Tea taste like?
It brews to a deep amber-brown liquor with a warm, slightly sweet chocolate-cocoa note layered over the bright, brisk character of Nilgiris black tea. It is neither a strong tea with a hint of chocolate, nor a hot chocolate with tea — it is a genuinely integrated blend where both components express themselves. Best described as a warm, malty, chocolate-infused tea. Very different from plain tea. Consistently surprising.
Q2: Does chocolate tea contain caffeine?
Yes. The Nilgiris black tea base contains approximately 50–80mg caffeine per cup. The cocoa component adds a small additional amount of theobromine (a milder stimulant in the same methylxanthine family as caffeine). Combined, this makes chocolate tea a moderate energising beverage — gentler than coffee, more stimulating than herbal teas.
Q3: Can I add milk to chocolate tea?
Yes — and it is delicious with milk. Adding full-fat milk to Nilgiris Chocolate Tea creates something close to a chai-chocolate hybrid — rich, creamy, warming. For a lighter experience, drink it black with a small amount of honey. Both preparations are excellent.
Q4: Is this different from cocoa or hot chocolate?
Yes, fundamentally. Hot chocolate is primarily cocoa with milk and sugar — heavy and sweet. OotyMade Nilgiris Chocolate Tea is primarily tea (80%+) with cocoa (balance). The result is a lighter, more complex, less sweet, antioxidant-rich beverage. Far lower in calories than hot chocolate while delivering a genuine chocolate warmth.
Q5: How do I brew Nilgiris Chocolate Tea for maximum chocolate flavour?
Simmer (not just steep) for 3–4 minutes in water. The heat-extraction from simmering draws out cocoa's fat-soluble flavour compounds more completely than a simple steep. Add milk after simmering. A pinch of cinnamon enhances the chocolate note significantly.
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
Why Nilgiris Tea is Different
The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.
At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.
What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.
All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.
