Cardamom from the Nilgiris. Tea from the Nilgiris. Both grown within 50 kilometres of each other.

OotyMade Nilgiris Cardamom Tea is not a flavoured tea — it is a blended tea made with real Nilgiris cardamom and genuine Nilgiris CTC black tea. The synergy of two mountain-grown ingredients from the same ecosystem produces an elaichi chai that is deeper, more aromatic, and more satisfying than any blended cardamom tea made from imported spices.

🫚 REAL NILGIRIS CARDAMOM — not artificial cardamom flavouring. Actual cardamom grown in the Nilgiris foothills, where the cool altitude produces spice with a more complex, intensely aromatic character than lowland cardamom

🍃 NILGIRIS CTC BASE TEA — the same bright, bold, estate-sourced tea that makes our Regular Tea exceptional. Here it serves as the perfect carrier for cardamom's warmth

🌿 ZERO ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS — the aroma in this pack comes from real cardamom, not cardamom essence. The difference on opening is immediately obvious — floral, warm, genuinely spiced

BREWS BEAUTIFULLY WITH MILK — the cardamom note brightens and deepens when milk is added. Traditional South Indian filter coffee technique adapted for tea: add cardamom tea to hot milk rather than adding milk to tea for maximum aroma expression

🎁 MOST GIFTED TEA IN THE OOTYMADE RANGE — the distinctive aroma makes this an excellent gift. Recipients who have not had real Nilgiris cardamom tea before are consistently surprised by the depth of flavour

Q1: Is this a natural cardamom blend or an artificially flavoured tea?

100% natural. OotyMade Nilgiris Cardamom Tea is blended with real cardamom from the Nilgiris foothills — not cardamom essence, not artificial flavouring. The cardamom is incorporated into the tea blend during processing. This is why the aroma is genuinely complex rather than single-note like artificially flavoured teas.

Q2: What are the health benefits of cardamom tea?

Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) contains volatile oils including 1,8-cineole and alpha-terpinyl acetate with documented antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and digestive properties. Combined with the theaflavins and polyphenols in Nilgiris black tea, cardamom tea is one of the richest antioxidant beverages available. Traditionally used in Ayurveda for respiratory health, digestion, and as a natural energy booster.

Q3: How do I get the most cardamom flavour from this tea?

Simmer (do not just steep) for 3–4 minutes after adding to boiling water. Simmering releases the volatile aromatic oils in cardamom more completely than steeping alone. Add milk after simmering, not before. For maximum aroma, add the brewed tea to hot milk in a separate cup rather than adding milk to the tea.

Q4: Is cardamom tea suitable during pregnancy?

Cardamom in food and beverage quantities (as used in tea) is generally considered safe during pregnancy and has long traditional use in South Asian culinary tradition. However, as this tea contains caffeine, please consult your doctor about appropriate caffeine intake during pregnancy.

Q5: What is the difference between this and the Homewood Cardamom Tea?

Both use Nilgiris tea with real cardamom. The Nilgiris Cardamom Tea (this product) uses our standard Nilgiris blended CTC base — bold, everyday strength. The Homewood Cardamom Tea uses tea sourced specifically from the Homewood Estate in the Nilgiris — single-estate provenance with a slightly more distinctive, estate-specific character. Homewood is the premium single-estate version; this blend is the premium everyday version.

Why Nilgiris Tea is Different

The Nilgiris — India's Blue
Mountains — grows tea at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the combination of
cool temperatures (15–20°C year-round), two annual monsoons, and mineral-rich
volcanic soil creates growing conditions found nowhere else in India.

At this altitude, tea plants
grow more slowly. Slower growth concentrates the natural compounds —
polyphenols, catechins, aromatic oils — that give Nilgiris tea its
characteristic brightness, natural sweetness, and clean, clear liquor.

What makes OotyMade's tea range
unique is traceability. We source from named estates — Kannavarai, Homewood,
Darmona, Homedale, Silver Oak — so you know exactly which garden your tea comes
from. No anonymous blends. No imported material. Just the Blue Mountains.

All teas are packed fresh at source and dispatched within 48 hours of
your order.

Brewing Guide:

How to Brew the Perfect Cup

 FOR MILK CHAI
(Traditional Indian Method):

1. Add 200ml water to a saucepan
and bring to boil

2. Add 1 heaped teaspoon (3–4g)
of tea powder

3. Simmer for 2–3 minutes on
medium heat

4. Add 50–75ml full-fat milk

5. Simmer for 1 more minute

6. Add sugar to taste, strain,
and serve immediately

FOR BLACK TEA
(Plain, Without Milk):

1. Heat water to 90–95 degrees
Celsius (just below boiling)

2. Add 1 teaspoon tea powder per
200ml

3. Steep for 2–3 minutes maximum

4. Strain immediately into your
cup

5. Add lemon or honey if desired
— never milk with black tea

FOR ICED TEA:

1. Brew double-strength (2
teaspoons per 200ml)

2. Steep for 3 minutes

3. Strain directly over a glass
full of ice

4. Add lemon slices and honey

Nilgiris tea stays crystal clear when iced — no cloudiness.

Freshness and Storage

Freshness, Storage and Shelf
Life

 SHELF LIFE: 12–18 months from
packing date when stored correctly.

All tea is packed fresh at
source and vacuum-sealed or airtight-sealed before dispatch.

 STORAGE: Store in an airtight
container in a cool, dry place away from:

— Direct sunlight (degrades
chlorophyll and antioxidants)

— Moisture (causes mold and
off-flavors)

— Strong odours (tea absorbs
surrounding aromas rapidly)

— Heat above 30 degrees Celsius

BEST PRACTICE: Transfer to a
ceramic or glass airtight container on receipt.

A dedicated tea tin stored in a
kitchen cabinet is ideal.

SIGNS OF FRESHNESS: Fresh Nilgiris
tea has a bright, clean aroma on opening.

If the aroma has faded
significantly, the tea is past its prime — though still safe to consume.

DISPATCH: All OotyMade teas are dispatched within 48 hours of order
confirmation.
